A contemporary rural outbuilding located in Herefordshire, this project reimagines the traditional barn as a highly efficient, multi‑use space.

At ground level the building accommodates a generous double garage, workshop and utility rooms, providing robust storage and service space for the main house. Above, at first‑floor, the space provides a flexible multipurpose studio that can adapt from workspace to guest area, with a home office alongside, enjoying long views over the surrounding fields.

The architecture takes its cues from agricultural forms in the local landscape: a simple standing seam metal pitched roof, timber cladding, and exposed brick and stone plinth sit comfortably within the countryside setting. Large glazing frame views across the meadows and bring daylight deep into the plan, while opening the upper floor to the treetops and sky.

An array of roof‑mounted solar panels, wood burning stove and a highly insulated envelope support a low‑energy approach, reducing operational carbon and running costs. Externally, the building is anchored into the garden with terraces, decking and planting, creating a seamless relationship between inside and out.
