While at Ryder Architecture, Tom led the architectural design services from concept through to completion for a £7m gold-standard facility, providing state-of-the-art accommodation and training facilities for military working dogs.

The existing facility had become increasingly unsuitable - run down, inefficient to operate, and costly to maintain. The MOD required a modern replacement that would meet the highest welfare standards while delivering long-term operational and financial sustainability.

The new facility comprises 24 gold-standard kennels, including dedicated quarantine kennels, individual external runs, purpose-built training areas, and a supporting facilities building for staff and operations.

Every aspect of the design was developed to meet current best practice in animal welfare, biosecurity, and operational efficiency. The result is a facility that significantly reduces maintenance demands, improves working conditions for handlers and dogs alike, and provides the MOD with a durable, cost-effective asset for years to come.
